Boards
Living dashboards that stay current, with undo, duplicate, approvals, and scheduled updates.
A board is a living dashboard that Surfboard creates and maintains. Boards stay current as your connected sources change. They can be created independently of any project and moved freely between projects as your work evolves. Every board has three parts:
- Content – The main view (status update, brief, dashboard, etc.)
- Appendix – Supporting evidence, citations, and raw data
- Instructions – Guidance for how Surfboard should maintain the board
Common board types:
- Account health trackers
- Sprint and PR dashboards
- Campaign performance views
- Meeting prep briefs
- Status updates and reports
- Incident post-mortems
Working with Boards
A few features help you stay in control of how boards change over time:
- Undo – Revert the last edit to a board with a single click. Useful when a refresh introduces something you want to roll back.
- Duplicate – Copy any board to use as a starting point for a new one. The duplicate inherits the original's instructions and structure.
- Approvals – If Surfboard wants to make an edit that goes beyond what the board is normally tracking (for example, pulling in a new source or adding a section you didn't ask for), it pauses and asks you to approve the change first. Approval requests queue when you're away instead of blocking Surfboard mid-task, so you return to find any pending requests waiting for you. You can also pre-approve trusted action types from Settings so Surfboard never needs to ask for those specific actions.
- Inline AI Editing – Select any text in a document in Edit mode, then click the AI icon (✨) in the toolbar that appears. Type an instruction (for example, "Make this more concise" or "Rewrite this in a friendlier tone") and click Apply to accept the change.
- Table of Contents – Documents with three or more headings show a floating Table of Contents on the side of the page. Click it to expand and jump to any section instantly.
- Flexible Chat Layouts – While viewing a document, use the layout toggle icons in the top-right corner of the chat panel to switch between inline (chat embedded in the document view), side panel (chat alongside the document), and full-page (chat only, document hidden) modes.
- Scheduled Updates – Set boards to refresh on a cadence (daily, weekly, or before key meetings) so your dashboards stay current without manual effort.
- Subscribe – Click the bell icon on any board to receive notifications when it updates. Choose All updates (every refresh or manual update) or Notable updates only (only when Surfboard flags a significant change). Subscribed boards also appear in the Subscribed section on your workspace Projects tab for quick access.
Setting up schedules requires Owner permissions. Editors and Viewers see a read-only preview of the schedule configuration.
